Sue Kitts has been teaching violin and viola and performing professionally for over 30 years. She began her formal music instruction at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and went on to become part of its music faculty, serving as Director of the Preparatory School in Strings. She has studied violin performance and pedagogy extensively at Oxford, England, with internationally acclaimed string teacher and lecturer, Kato Havas, author of ”A New Approach to Violin Playing“ and ”Stage Fright, Its Causes and Cures.“ Ms. Kitts presented her paper, ”A New Approach to Practicing,“ at the ”Playing Less Hurt Conference“ held in 1990 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Ms. Kitts has played professionally with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra, and the University of Minnesota, Duluth, String Quartet. She served as concertmaster of the University of Minnesota, Duluth, Symphony Orchestra, and the Oklahoma Community Orchestra. In Nevada, she is currently concertmaster of the Carson City Symphony and a member of the Ruby Mountain Symphony, the Foundation Orchestra, the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra, the Sierra Strings, and the Silver Strings chamber music group. She also enjoys playing fiddle with the Celtic-inspired folk group Gáirín.
Director and instructor of the Carson City Symphony’s ”Strings in the Schools“ and "Strings in the Summer" programs, Ms. Kitts also teaches violin and viola privately at
Play Your Own Music in Carson City.
